At The Beach

And today is my reveal!  I really love this inspiration photo, love the scenery and the colors. Perfect for Rowan's photo at Dominican Republic, Summer 2012.

 

  

 

I used light patterned paper for my background so it's easy for me to play and manipulate the rest of the color.  Layered 4 x 6 paper with stencil and splatter to matte the photo.

 

To mimic the sand, I inked abaca fiber and layered it with surgical gauze.

Cluster of flowers in blue and pink shades was inspired by the chair color. Adding twine, shells and beach glass complement each other.

Cake Holder

Mixed media is not always something about working on canvas. Sometimes, you will be surprised to find out that your are doing it without knowing it. When you use different elements like paints, fabric, wood, metal or when you alter your embellishment to add texture, you are doing Mixed Media! Yey!

Like this one, I altered cake holder. Yes, cake holder from Aiden's birthday "ice cream" cake. And I think small cake holder (thick and hard) is also good for mini album with rings.

For Frosted Designs Scallops Challenge 

and Club CK - April Sketch It Out , twist - No patterned paper

Here's how :

 Apply thin, textured layer of gesso with palette knife or plastic card.

  Moist stamp lightly with water. I used crackle stamp from Stampin Up.

 

Press the stamp repeatedly into the wet gesso until you reach your desired design.

 Let it dry completely. Apply ink. Sometimes it requires a little practice to obtain good color combo, so try your ideas on scrap paper first.

 

I used fuchsia dye ink pad Craftsmart and Colorbox blue lagoon for purple look. Versa Magic turquoise gem and Colorbox yellow citrus for teal with yellow effect.

  I altered  Basic Grey chipboard letter using fuchsia dye ink Craftsmart and TPC Studio Violet ink. I used small paint brush to apply ink.

Fabric Flowers

I am loving these fabric flowers lately. I started with few strips of burlap and one day Kim gave me more fabrics to work on (",). Here's how I made them :

Strip of fabric (I used burlap) about 5cm wide, cardstock circle (approximately bigger than you want the finished flower to be.

Twist the fabric.

 

Secure the twisted end of the fabric to the center of the cardstock cirlce with hot glue gun or fabric glue and press it. Continue to twist and coil the fabric around the center and use hot glue gun as needed to secure the fabric in place.

 

 

If you meet your desired size , trim off any excess cardstock or fabric. Insert the tail of the fabric under and secure with hot glue gun.

Mist, paint, ink the flower or leave it as plain.

 

 

 Add button, pearls, brads, rhinestones or other embellishment.

 

For another twist, I used longer strip of fabric, about 60cm, about 5cm wide.

 

 

Twist and fold and follow the same instructions above.

Scraps of Ribbons

A tag shaped card with looped ribbons to form a flower. I always keep cuttings of everything. I put all my loose cuttings in a jar, small things make big impression.

Small envelope – Michaels , wrapped with ribbons and trims from Michaels too, glued the folded part and secure the rest with velcro (Michaels) in order to lift the envelope and insert a message. I used velcro too to close the envelope.

 

 

Mini glass with cork – from Dollar Shop, I just put loose flowers (Michaels/Brides) and strings (recycle bin, LOL) piece of burlap (Michaels) tie with twine (American Crafts)
